On Open Access Analytics in Europe

One of the work packages in the SONAR project is concerned with “Open Access (OA) Analytics”. This is a field on which work has been done already in the last years in other European countries. SONAR can profit from this work.

The work done by HEG Genève for the content tracking, one of the most exploratory tasks of SONAR project, already led to interesting data.


Presentation at the Open Access Tage 2019 (Hannover, Germany, 01.10.2019)

Two members of the SONAR team attended the Open Access Tage 2019, earlier this month in Hannover, to present the project. The conference is the main annual meeting of colleagues working in the field of Open Access in the German-speaking world. The aim of the presentation was to introduce SONAR into this context.


Creating mockups for SONAR

The work on designing the user interface of SONAR is progressing. According to the adopted methodology (presented in the beginning of the post about personas), we proceed in five layers: 1. Strategy, 2. Scope, 3. Structure, 4. Skeleton and 5. Surface.

Mockups belongs to layer 4, consisting in defining the skeleton of the system, or how it visually interacts with a user.

Who is the typical user of SONAR?

An important task of the SONAR project is to conceive a user-friendly interface. We decided to structure this process according to the five elements of J.J. Garrett1. Firstly, define the strategy of your product, and then its scope, its structure, its skeleton and finally its surface.


First tests to recover full-text files of Swiss publications

On the 3rd of April took place a common working meeting of the 4 SONAR partners (HES-SO/HEG Genève, HTW Chur, USI and RERO) in Bern.

HEG Genève is conducting a feasibility study of ways of recovering full-text files of Swiss publications, having achieved some important conclusions.


The SONAR project has started

     

SONAR has just been launched and will be running until October 2020. Some work has already begun, but the four partners (RERO, HES-SO, FH Graubünden [formerly HTW Chur], USI) will be meeting in December for the official project kick-off. The purpose of this website is to present the project and give updates on its progress. To keep focus on the important work to come and not get distracted by management tasks, English was chosen as common communication language during the project phase.
